# Free Tool: RCS Reach Checker

> A free, no-sign-up checker on orbit.devotel.io that estimates whether a phone number can receive RCS — from published country coverage plus the number's line type — so you can size markets before choosing a sender-ID registration path.

# Free Tool: RCS Reach Checker

The [RCS reach checker](https://orbit.devotel.io/en/tools/rcs-reach-checker)
is a free, browser-side utility on the [developer tools hub](https://orbit.devotel.io/en/tools).
It estimates whether a destination number can receive RCS — before you
commit to an RCS onboarding path or launch in a new market.

## What the tool estimates

RCS (Rich Communication Services) only works when two things line up:

1. **Country coverage** — Orbit publishes an RCS rate for the destination
   country, which is what can make RCS origination available there at all.
2. **Line type** — RCS is a mobile-device channel. A landline, toll-free,
   or other non-mobile number can never receive it, regardless of country
   coverage.

The checker composes those two facts into a reach class. It is an
**estimate, not a delivery guarantee** — a live per-number RCS capability
probe (whether this handset has RCS/Google Messages enabled right now)
requires a billed, authenticated provider query, so no public, unauthenticated
tool can perform one. Final delivery still depends on the recipient's device
and carrier RCS enablement.

## Inputs

One input: a phone number in **E.164 format** (country code + number, with
no other input required). The checker runs entirely in the browser — the
number is never sent to a server, so you can paste real customer numbers
without worry.

## Reading the verdict

The tool returns one of four reach classes per number:

| Verdict                 | Meaning                                                                                       |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Likely reachable** | The country is covered and the number resolves as a mobile-capable line |
| **Unlikely reachable** | The country is covered, but the number is a fixed line, toll-free, or another non-mobile type |
| **Not covered for RCS** | Orbit doesn't yet publish an RCS rate for the destination country |
| **Can't estimate yet**  | The input isn't a complete, dialable number                                                   |

Alongside the verdict the panel shows the resolved country and line type so
you can see exactly which fact the verdict was built on. For channel detail
beyond reach, read the [RCS channel page](/channels/rcs) and the
[RCS onboarding guide](/guides/rcs-onboarding); the
[RCS UP3 guardrails](/compliance/rcs-up3-guardrails) page covers the
universal-class content policies that apply once you're sending.

## How reach relates to country rules

"RCS reachable" is a channel verdict, not a compliance verdict. Countries
also gate on sender registration — alphabetic Sender IDs require
pre-registration in some markets before your first send can go through.
Translate the verdict into a launch decision with the two compliance
references:

* [Country Compliance Requirements](/compliance/country-requirements) — the
  full per-country ruleset.
* [Sender-ID country matrix](/guides/sender-id-country-matrix) — which
  markets block unregistered Sender IDs outright, and which accept dynamic
  senders.

<Warning>
  Registration requirements are granted by each country's carrier or
  regulator, not by Orbit — the matrix tells you what to plan for, not a
  delivery guarantee.
</Warning>

## Choosing markets

Use reach together with the matrix before you commit to a launch market. A
market that scores "Likely reachable" on the checker but carries a
sender-registration `required` flag may add weeks of lead time to your
launch; a market that scores "Not covered for RCS" but carries the SMS
coverage you need may still be viable on a different channel.

Reach verdicts are a planning instrument, not a go/no-go gate — they size
the addressable audience so you never commit to a market without knowing
whether your destination numbers take RCS at all.
