CPaaS/CCaaS platform evaluation checklist

Use this ten-section rubric when you run a vendor selection on any communications platform. Score one vendor per section, cite the public Orbit page the answer lives on, and the shortlist cuts itself to two vendors in an afternoon. The full scoring-sheet version lives on the blog: The CPaaS/CCaaS platform evaluation checklist.

How to score any communications platform

  1. Channel coverage. Verify that every channel you will touch — SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS, email, voice, video, fax — runs on one account and one wallet. Check the CPaaS feature surface.
  2. AI-agent surface. Confirm the agent ships natively on the calls and messages, not as a bolt-on; check per-action cost on the same account. See the AI agent surface.
  3. Contact-center surface. Build the routing, QA scoring, and agent desktop now; do not defer it to the migration. See the CCaaS feature surface.
  4. CDP surface. Ask whether the customer data platform is native (one profile, consent record, conversation history) rather than a CRM connector you operate. See the CDP feature surface.
  5. Compliance controls. Ask for tenant-owned controls only — configurable by you, defaulted open, with exportable evidence. Review the Compliance tree, then read the quarterly compliance posture review for evidence.
  6. Billing model. Work the next-24-months arithmetic in the demo. Compare per-seat vs usage on the pricing comparison post.
  7. Network ownership. Ask whose network terminates the outbound traffic. Orbit routes over Devotel’s own wholesale softswitch — see the carrier of record page.
  8. Pricing transparency. Compute the bill from the public rate card on the pricing page.
  9. Trial access. A self-serve test key is the answer. Use the quickstart to run it on your own sandbox today.
  10. Support tiers. Verify the included tiers and the response-time contract, then check the public status page.
